Title: Assemblages
Year: 2022-24
Description: Various found objects, ephemera, memorabilia, wooden construction, beeswax and tree resin.
Medium: Mixed Media
Dimensions: 8″ x 12″ x 2″

My process focuses on nostalgia, ancestral roots (being a dual citizen) letting go to chance, and the curiosity to transform something into something else — the journey of an object’s transformation is fascinating to me. I love the structure of geometry and building assemblages, incorporating personal ephemera, and using beeswax and tree resin (encaustics) into the work. The archival nature of encaustics is an important medium which fuses my work together.

Dimensions: 7″ x 7″ x 7″

Dedicated to Irish Poet, Seamus Heaney, (7″ x 7″ x 7″) diorama 2019. In 2019, during the lockdown of Covid, all personal projects and work got shifted in my life to online and the world felt like it had narrowed into a tiny 7″ x 7″ x 7″ box. A planned trip to Ireland was cancelled during this time. Using Irish poet, Seamus Heaney’s poem, “Postscript” I recreated my studio by building this tiny replica — the one thing that sustained me during this difficult period of isolation and lack of movement. I used this introspective time to cope creatively and “stay light on my feet” with the epic changes to come. Materials: Balsa wood, paint, archival prints, and found objects.

During graduate school I voluntered at the Harwood Museum of Art’s exhibiton, “Agnes Martin before the Grid” in 2012. I was interested in Martin’s grids and lines and her concepts of lines being calming caught my attention.  I also interviewed filmmaker, Mary Lance who produced the Agnes Martin interview, “With my back to the world.” And I spent time at the MoMa researching Martin’s work and in lower Manhattan where her waterfront studio was located in Coenties Slip.
