Burren, Ireland Residencies
”28 Days in the Burren” project was an immersive experience at the Burren College of Art. I continued with teabags, infused with found or local objects (flora and fauna) and sealing each teabag with beeswax and tree resin. The idea of these ‘one-a-days’ was to document the time there and explore the themes of dual-citizenship.
Each teabag attached on a dowel (6 across x 6 deep) and placed in a 18 x 18″ x 2 inch box (three boxes total). Each box was edged with repurposed rulers in both metric and inches. There was a total of 108 teabags. 108 being a sacred number.
Primary Focus of Project: “28 Days in the Burren”
Medium: Three 18 x 18 x 2 inch boxes framed containing both metric and inch wooden rulers. Drawing on teabags as a daily documentation and practice, including collecting found objects and infusing them inside teabags with beeswax and resin. Each teabag was attached to dowel. There were 36 teabags per box for a total of 108. The box colors were sourced and sampled from the colors in the landscape.
Description: The theme was focused on coming to terms with the duality of being both Irish and American and bridging these differing cultures creatively.
