Burren, Ireland Residencies
“Reparation, Repair and Renewal” project was an immersive experience at the Burren College of Art. The concept was to create and fill the entire studio space with a large (open) daily sketch book/journal on the walls documenting my residency through photography and archival printing, and building assemblages. I used encaustics (beeswax and resin), as well as collecting natural objects on my daily walks in the Burren landscape. Instead of keeping a private journal, I wanted it more public and ‘out in the open’ to show my process.
Primary Focus of Project: The meaning of the words “reparation, repair and renewal” were studied.
Medium: large open sketch book wall, collected elements, large archival prints, found objects and daily drawings and personal writings.
Description: This month-long residency focused on creating a large open sketch book wall to reveal the day-to-day process of the journey of creating. Instead of hiding thoughts in a journal I let my meanderings from gathering found objects, experiments with a photo microscope, small pencil drawings, to daily writings and photography populate my wall and be openly public. I also worked on three assemblages which were completed during this residency.
