2025: 80, 3” Squares: The Currach Series

80, 3” Squares was an exploration into creating 7 photos-a-day in the Burren. Mixing the archival photos with typography and words from the poem by Michael Higgins entitled, The Currach, and snippets of old shredded paper scraps and ephemera from my collection. This series was also inspired by my father’s and uncle’s ship building days in England and Scotland.

The photos, the type, along with found ephemera from the local seascape and land, was infused with white beeswax and resin on masonite squares. The squares were attached together with hemp twine and the final piece is a wall tapestry.

Much of my daily practice is working with my inner critic, not suppressing it, but welcoming it, and continuing to make regardless of the mental road blocks. I love leaving a lot to chance and try not to judge while I’m making. I truly sometimes “sit on my hands” and wait for a clearer decision and solution before moving forward.
