In 2019, during the lockdown of Covid, all personal projects and work got shifted in Mary’s life to online and her world felt like it had narrowed into a tiny 7 x 7 x 7 inch box. Her planned trip to Ireland was sadly cancelled during this time. Using Irish poet, Seamus Heaney’s poem, “Postscript” she recreated her office by building this tiny replica — the one thing that sustained her during this difficult period of isolation and lack of movement. She really got to know herself, and used this introspective time to cope creatively and “stay light on her feet” with the epic changes to come. (Balsa wood, paint, archival prints, and found objects).
Missing Ireland was what inspired her to create this piece and the memory of a friend’s home in Fanore, Ireland. (Repurposed ephemera coated in beeswax and resin).
